Upswing Farm Field Crew 2018

Upswing Farm is seeking motivated crew members to join their team for the farm’s third growing season.  Hours and schedules are flexible.  The best candidate for this position would be a cross-fit ballerina with incredible dexterity, energy and attention to detail!  The Crew will work closely with the farmers in all aspects of vegetable production, with a primary focus on harvesting, washing, transplanting and cultivating field crops.  The right candidates will be excited about working on a small, diversified farm and ready to continually improve upon important farm skills leading to increased efficiency and work quality.

Start date: May-June (flexible)
End date: August-October (flexible, but preference will be given to candidates who can work until the end of September)
Schedule: Shifts are 7am-12pm and 1pm-5pm Tuesday-Friday.  Morning availability preferred.

Responsible for assisting the farmers in all aspects of:
Harvest
Washing and Packing
Planting
Cultivation including Hoeing and Hand Weeding
Mulching, Trellising and Pruning
Seedling Production

Skills and Competencies:
Ability to do fast, quality, detailed work like bunching, picking, seeding and hand weeding
Ability to lift and carry 50lbs repeatedly
Willing to work in all weather conditions
Good communication skills
Ability to receive and digest plenty of constructive feedback
Interest in all aspects of vegetable production and sales
Self-motivated

Previous farming experience is not required.  However, candidates without farmer references should be able to demonstrate their ability to work in a farm environment through other relevant experience.  All candidates will be asked to come to the farm for a working interview before being hired.

Compensation: $11-$13/hour depending on experience

Benefits: Vegetables from the farm, opportunity to purchase bought-in products at cost, and paid participation in Eastern Massachusetts CRAFT. Also, the Ashland reservoir is a stone’s throw and a great swimming hole when the heat can’t be beat.
