Assistant Grower, Filled

Upswing Farm is seeking one motivated beginning farmer to join their team for the farm’s second growing season.  This person will work closely with both farmers in all aspects of vegetable production.  We are particularly interested in working with an individual with clear career goals in agriculture, and will invest in their development with on-farm training and side-by-side instruction.  The timeframe of the position is flexible for the right candidate.

Start date: April 1st-May 15th (flexible)
End date: August 15th-August 30th, with the potential to continue working until December.
Schedule: Five days/week, either Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday, 7am-4pm

Responsible for Assisting the Farm Managers in all aspects of:
Seedling Production and Propagation
Fertility Management
Bed Preparation
Transplanting and Direct Seeding
Cultivation
Disease and Pest Management
Harvest
Wash and Storage
Distribution and Sales

Skills and Competencies:
Ability to lift and carry 50lbs repeatedly
Ability to work long hours in all kinds of weather conditions
Good communication with employers, co-workers and customers
Eager to learn through work and experience
Interested in all aspects of vegetable production and sales
Self-motivated
Willing to take on responsibility as needed

Previous farming experience is not required.  However, candidates without farmer references should be able to demonstrate their ability to work in a farm environment through other relevant experience.  All candidates will be asked to come to the farm for a working interview before being hired.

Compensation: $11-$13/hour

Benefits: Vegetables and fruit from the farm, opportunity to purchase bought-in products at cost, $200 educational stipend to be used for workshops, conferences or educational materials during employment, $200 gear stipend and paid participation in EMass CRAFT.

Crew Member, Filled

Upswing Farm is seeking four motivated individuals to join their team for the farm’s second growing season.  Candidates will work closely with both farmers in all aspects of vegetable production, with a primary focus on harvesting, washing, transplanting and cultivating field crops.  The right candidates will be excited about working on a small, diversified farm and ready to continually improve upon important farm skills by increasing efficiency and work quality.

Start date: June 15th-June 30th (flexible)
End date: August 15th-August 30th
Schedule: Tuesday-Friday, 3 hour shifts, 7am-10am or 9:30am-12:30pm
